Why markup and margin get confused
A 25% markup does not produce a 25% margin. If your cost is $10,000 and you mark it up by 25%, the price is $12,500 and the margin is 20%.
To reach a 25% margin, the markup must be 33.3%. That is why contractors should calculate markup from the desired margin, not guess.
